No, you do not need to be a strong swimmer to have an underwater portrait session. In our studio you work in a controlled, heated pool, and you are only underwater for a few seconds at a time.
What do you actually have to do?
Hold a breath for a few seconds, relax your face and let the pose settle. We coach you through specific breath-holding techniques and poses that look effortless, and a gentle exhale before and during your descent is what lets you sink and hold a pose. Everything runs at your pace, and you rest at the surface as long as you like between frames.
What keeps you comfortable and safe?
The pool is heated to 90°F, and a float is available at the surface at all times. Abbey spent years teaching children to swim before she ever coached a client here, and she is in the water beside you through the session while Justin, a PADI Dive Instructor, shoots.
What if I am nervous?
Many of our clients are not professional models and have never done anything like this before. If you are unsure, get in touch for a chat. We will walk you through the process step by step, with no pressure attached.

How can I get ready?
A few relaxed minutes a day of guided breath-hold practice in the week before is plenty, and how to prepare covers the rest. Read about underwater portrait sessions, or browse the frequently asked questions.
